Mobile telephony operator Vodafone signed a partnership with the RoRec Association to install WEEE collection systems in the shop network of Vodafone and its partner, Sayfone, where the company’s customers from 220 locations throughout the country will be able to bring batteries and portable accumulators for recycling.
When we recycle or donate mobile phones, we help protect the environment by saving energy and reducing the quantity of reusable materials that reach the landfills. Mobile phones and PDAs are made of precious materials, copper and plastic and extracting and processing them require the use of energy. Recycling enables us not only to preserve these materials, but also to prevent air and water pollution, as well as GHG emissions.
Every year, over 100 million cell phones are taken out of use. If we recycled all of them, we would save enough energy to power approximately 18,500 homes for a year.
