Created in 2005 as an initiative developed by 30 electrical and electronic equipment producers and importers, the non-profit EcoLogic Association from France is also supported by the International Federation of Mechanics and Electronics Companies (FICIME), as well as the IT&C Industrial Alliance.
The board is made up of the representatives of 12 companies and associations with equal voting rights, regardless of the turnover (Aisin, Brother, Daewoo, Epson, FICIME, Fuji Film, Kodak, Lexmark, Peekton, Pioneer, Sagem and Sharp) and the association is led by René-Louis Perrier. The association has almost 1,000 members.
On behalf of the producers and distributors in France, EcoLogic takes over electrical and electronic equipment that reaches the end of its life-cycle – and its activities cover collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of components and resulting raw materials.
EcoLogic has a team of 28 people running all the activities above, working with their partners in the areas of transport, recycling, decontamination and recovery. Last year, the association collected and recycled over 65,000 metric tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment through its 1,300 drop-off centres set up with the distributors and another 930 drop-off centres opened in 290 partner local communities with a total of 16 million inhabitants. During the first half of 2010, the association has already collected over 30,000 tons of WEEE.
According to the French press, EcoLogic has managed to recycle almost 80% of WEEE collected annually and reached a level of 5% of energy recovery from the collected quantities.
