The inauguration of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Collection Centers, a national project developed in partnership with the local authorities, continued with the opening of the first center in the county of Calarasi, providing a solution for the citizens to collect waste electrical and electronic equipment at European standards.
“According to the European Union norms, every Romanian should collect 4 kg of waste electrical and electronic equipment per year. Romania is not in the frontline, with around 1 – 1.5 kg over the past two years. Creating a coherent collection infrastructure is a must so that citizens can responsibly dispose of this waste. This is one of the reasons why we develop this project with national coverage, but we also want to draw people’s attention on the toxic effects this waste has on the environment, if not treated according to the European environmental standards.”, added Mr. Liviu Popeneciu, President of the Romanian Recycling Association RoRec.
The WEEE Collection Center from Calarasi provides services both to the population and to companies and institutions via an "Infoline" desk open Monday through Friday, between 09:00 a.m. and 06:00 p.m. and Saturday between 09:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m. at phone number 0737.058.875. Companies and institutions can also request the pick-up of old equipment for scrapping, by calling the same infoline number. The reception of the old equipment is done directly at the center located on Locomotivei street every Saturday between 09:00 a.m. and 01:00 p.m., while heavy or large appliances can be picked up from home, following a request made at the infoline number.
The launch of the WEEE Collection Center from Calarasi was accompanied by a WEEE collection event. All inhabitants who brought old or defective equipment at the center located on Locomotivei street or in one of the specially designated points in Prefecturii Square, Orizont Square and Magureni district participated in a raffle with 20 prizes – 10 TV sets and 10 refrigerators – offered by manufacturer Arctic, founding member of RoRec.
